NDC ALLEGEDLY DECEIVE GHANAIANS WITH FAKE PHOTO OF DR. MATTHEW OPOKU PREMPEH

Was Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh seen holding an umbrella with NDC branding at a public event in a picture that went viral on X (formerly Twitter)?

Just a month after the NPP revealed Dr. Prempeh as their vice presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 elections, a photo has surfaced on X hinting at his possible support for the opposing party.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is pictured with an NDC-branded umbrella on a rainy day next to a soccer field, and the photo has been circulated by several X users.

GhanaFact conducted a google reverse image search of the viral photo and discovered that the original image was initially posted online on August 18, 2023, by the NPP running mate, who also serves as the former Minister of Energy, on his social media profiles here and here.

This occurred when the Ministry of Energy staff and the sector agencies assembled for the 2023 Energy Games at Akuse Sports Complex.

A brief examination of the initial image indicates that the umbrella did not feature the NDC logo and it was probably added later.

GhanaFact discovered through an Exif data viewer that the altered image lacks EXIF metadata, suggesting it may have been removed during editing to cover signs of manipulation.

There is no proof that former president John Mahama, whose campaign logo was seen on the flyer, has shared the poster or that the NDC’s official social media accounts have done so.

Therefore, the viral image is rated FAKE.
