Business mogul and Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley, has urged young entrepreneurs to always be prepared to seize opportunities, emphasizing that success often comes to those who are ready when opportunity knocks.
Speaking at the McDan Youth Connect event at the Akenten Appiah-Menkah University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Kumasi, Dr. McKorley stressed the importance of readiness and resilience in business.
“Failure is inevitable, but as a young entrepreneur, you must always be prepared. Imagine meeting me for just three minutes to pitch your business idea—what will your presentation be? You have only one opportunity, and you must make it count,” he stated.
He further expressed his disappointment that some of the students who pitched their ideas at the event did not bring product samples, highlighting the need for entrepreneurs to be proactive.
“How do you say you’re producing something and yet fail to show a sample? You must be ready at all times because opportunities won’t wait for you,” he added.
Dr. McKorley also shared his personal experiences with failure, explaining that setbacks are a natural part of success.
“I have built businesses worth millions, and some have failed. But failure should never scare you. It is part of your journey to success. One time, a journalist asked me about my greatest failure, and at that moment, the only thing that came to mind was when my first girlfriend left me,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience.
He concluded by urging students to develop the right mindset and approach to business, assuring them that McDan’s presence at AAMUSTED will leave a lasting impact.
“When McDan touches your school, it will never be the same again. The most important thing to me is your mentality. Never joke with opportunity,” he reiterated.
The McDan Youth Connect initiative aims to mentor and empower young entrepreneurs, equipping them with the mindset and skills needed to succeed in the competitive business world.
