NEVER REPEAR ‘COOK-A-THON EMBARRASSMENT’ – Information Minister Warns Media

Fatimatu Abubakar, the Information Minister, has advised media organizations to be careful and verify information completely before publishing to prevent national shame and possible disorder.

Abubakar mentioned a recent situation with a Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, who falsely stated he was recognized by Guinness World Records for a cook-a-thon.

The unconfirmed news spread rapidly among prominent media outlets in the nation, causing substantial humiliation.

Abubakar emphasized in Accra how serious the problem is, pointing out that spreading false information within the political realm, especially concerning elections, could result in significant unrest or chaos throughout the country.

“The media has the responsibility to verify every information before publication. It’s dangerous to spread falsehood because it could lead us into chaos,” she emphasised.
