NIA BEGINS FREE GHANA CARD ISSUANCE IN GREATER ACCRA, URGES PUBLIC TO REPORT STAFF DEMANDING FEES

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of the issuance of Ghana Cards in the Greater Accra Region, starting Monday, April 7, 2025.

The exercise involves handling both the backlog of printed cards and new registrations at all NIA District Offices.

The NIA announced that Ghanaians who applied for a card, a replacement, or needed to update their personal information since June 2023 can now collect their cards from the District Office where they registered. If you haven’t received your card yet, it’s ready for pickup.

If you are a Ghanaian aged 15 and older and haven’t registered for the Ghana Card, you are encouraged to register starting April 7 at any NIA District Office in the Greater Accra Region.

It’s important to know that getting your printed backlog card or registering for the first time won’t cost you anything. These services are completely free.

If any NIA staff ask for payment for these free services, report them because charging fees is not allowed.

Keep in mind, however, that services like card replacement and personal record updates will still require you to pay the usual fees at District Offices.

The NIA is committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian gets the Ghana Card. This card is an important tool for identification, helping to access various services and benefits.
