NIGERIAN VIDEO DIRECTOR, CHOPPENSON ACCUSES SHATTA WALE OF NON-PAYMENT AFTER 13 MUSIC PROJECTS

A Nigerian video director, Michael, known professionally as Choppenson alleges that Shatta Wale has declined to compensate for the services provided.

Choppenson stated in a YouTube video that he had been involved in approximately 13 music videos for the artist, including popular songs such as ‘Taking Over’ and ‘Ayoo’, resulting in global recognition and a partnership with Beyoncé.

Choppenson remembered being told he would be paid for his work but ended up not receiving any compensation despite travelling to Tamale with Shatta Wale for more video shoots.

Even though Shatta Wale and his manager have reassured him, the director insists that he has not been paid over GH¢50,000.

“I did my quotation, and I called him, ‘Bro, I’ve done all my calculations. Getting crew, and my camera equipment in general. My fee will be 30,000 cedis.

“He said, ‘Oh, it’s a little money’. He will give me 50k. Plus, he will even buy me a car,” he narrated.

He continued “I was happy. I said, ‘Okay, fine.’ My parents just sent me my school fees from Nigeria and part of my rent. I gathered everything. Rented equipment. Put my crew together. I shot this video for Wale. He said, ‘Don’t worry, I will give you your money’. I left.

“On day one, I didn’t see my money. On day two, I didn’t see my money. The next day, he didn’t pick up my calls. The next day, I went to his house. They refused me from seeing him.”

He mentioned that he still hasn’t seen any financial benefit from Shatta Wale and wondered why he was treated that way.

“I did all this video for you, and yet you treat me like this. You need to see how Wale talked to me on set.

“I have worked with Ghanaian artistes. Plenty of them. They are amazing people. I just keep myself calm. I just do my thing. I don’t look for trouble,” he said.
