NKRUMAH PARK RAKED IN GH¢10 MILLION IN 2025 — 266,000 Tourists Visited Facility

Executive Director targets 600,000 visitors in 2026 as park becomes Ghana’s top heritage site

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) generated approximately GH¢10 million in revenue in 2025 after welcoming about 266,000 visitors, comprising both domestic and international tourists, according to Dr. Collins Nunyonameh, the acting Executive Director of the park.

Dr. Nunyonameh revealed that domestic visitors accounted for 75% of the total number, while foreign tourists made up 25%, noting that although visitor numbers were slightly lower than in 2024, revenues increased by GH¢2 million due to higher contributions from international visitors.

“Even though we had fewer visitors in 2025 than we did in 2024, our revenue was approximately GH¢2 million more,” Dr Nunyonameh told the Daily Graphic.

“The distinction between domestic tourists and international tourists in this park is the price they pay the international tourists pay four times what the regular Ghanaian will pay.”

He explained that the park retains 66% of its internally generated funds (IGF), while the government keeps 34%, as per national financial regulations.

Growing Global Recognition

Since its reopening in July 2023, the Nkrumah Park has seen a consistent rise in patronage, becoming one of Ghana’s most visited cultural heritage sites.

Dr. Nunyonameh disclosed that the park has hosted several high-profile international visitors, including:

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,
  • German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier,
  • Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell,
  • Colombia’s Vice President Francia Márquez, and
  • The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward.

He also recounted how a presidential candidate from Congo Brazzaville visited the site “to draw inspiration from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah” before his election campaign.

“The park’s mission is to promote the legacy and ideals of Dr. Nkrumah, which remain deeply relevant in addressing global challenges today,” Dr. Nunyonameh said.

Modernisation and Upgrades

As part of its ongoing transformation, the park has introduced several improvements:

  • Point-of-sale systems for seamless payments;
  • Free Wi-Fi at the reception area, with plans to extend it throughout the park;
  • Enhanced landscaping and lighting to boost aesthetics and safety;
  • Restoration of the musical fountain; and
  • The opening of a restaurant and souvenir shop to diversify revenue streams.

Dr. Nunyonameh described the site as “one of the best-kept public spaces in Ghana” and said work is ongoing to restore the roof of the main mausoleum where Dr. Nkrumah’s remains lie.

He also announced plans to open a library by the end of 2026, through collaborations with international foundations and academic institutions from America, India, and Europe.

Security and Future Plans

Security at the park is also being strengthened, with a new dedicated team set to be deployed soon. The Executive Director further encouraged corporate organisations and associations to hold their events at the facility, citing its serene environment and improved infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Dr. Nunyonameh said the park’s management aims to attract 600,000 visitors in 2026, doubling its current numbers.

“We believe that with support from the public and the media, we can pull this off fairly easily,” he stated confidently.

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which honours Ghana’s first President and leading Pan-Africanist, continues to serve as a powerful symbol of Ghana’s independence, cultural pride, and global legacy.
