NMAG Engages Ministry of Communications to Strengthen New Media Collaboration

Association pushes for deeper ties with government to promote professionalism, innovation, and youth empowerment in digital media

The New Media Association of Ghana (NMAG) has paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Communications, Digitalization and Innovation as part of efforts to deepen collaboration and formally introduce the Association to government stakeholders.

The NMAG delegation was received by the Deputy Minister for Communications, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu (MP), on behalf of the Ministry. The Association was represented by its President, Eugene Osafo-Nkansah, Secretary Jibriel Suliah Jagbesie, and three additional members.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the growing influence of new media in Ghana’s national development and the urgent need for structured cooperation between the Ministry and NMAG. Key issues addressed included digital regulation, capacity building, youth empowerment, and responsible content creation in an increasingly digital media ecosystem.

The NMAG team reaffirmed their commitment to supporting government initiatives and promoting professionalism, ethics, and accountability across digital platforms. The Deputy Minister welcomed the engagement, praising the Association’s role in organizing and bringing structure to the evolving media space. He also encouraged continued dialogue and collaboration.

The meeting also highlighted joint initiatives between the Ministry and NMAG, including Ghana’s TikTok Monetization Program, which featured interactions between TikTok officials and NMAG members, as well as the Akuna Wallet fintech pilot project involving digital payment trials by selected NMAG professionals.

In his remarks, Mr. Osafo-Nkansah expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s continued recognition of NMAG. He further appealed for formal government adoption of NMAG as the umbrella body for bloggers, influencers, online journalists, vloggers, and content creators in Ghana.

The visit marks what both parties described as a significant step towards reinforcing NMAG’s role as a credible partner in advancing responsible digital media practices, innovation, and national development.
