NO INCREASE IN FACILITY FEES AS GTEC APPROVES UNIVERSITY OF GHANA CHARGES FOR 2025/2026

Academic Facility User Fee unchanged; new 75th Anniversary Levy introduced as one-off charge; SRC, GRASAG dues approved.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has officially approved the University of Ghana’s fee structure for the 2025/2026 academic year, confirming no increase in the Academic Facility User Fee while introducing a one-off 75th Anniversary Levy.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 12, and signed by Director-General Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, GTEC announced that the core Academic Facility User Fee remains unchanged from the previous academic year, providing relief to students after weeks of uncertainty and protests over proposed charges.

The approved schedule includes Student Representative Council (SRC) dues of GH₵50, an SRC Development Levy of GH₵150, a Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) Development Levy of GH₵250, and a Telecel Broadband Levy of GH₵122 for undergraduate and fresher students.

Additionally, a one-off 75th Anniversary Levy of GH₵100 has been introduced exclusively for the 2025/2026 academic year and will not extend to subsequent years.

GTEC emphasized transparency and student rights, urging the university to properly inform students about optional levies and opt-out provisions where applicable. The announcement follows an earlier directive for the university to reverse unapproved fee increases and refund or credit any excess payments already made by students.

The release aims to resolve all outstanding issues related to fees and ensure a smooth academic year for all stakeholders.
