Elder Sister Stands Firm on Postmortem as Manhyia Palace Directs Family to Settle Rift Amicably
The family feud surrounding the burial of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has taken a new turn, with his elder sister, Ernestina Akosua Brempongmaa, insisting that a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of his death.
This declaration follows a mediation meeting between Ms. Brempongmaa and the family head, Kofi Owusu, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, November 3, 2025. The meeting was convened by Otumfuo’s Saamanhene, Nana Buabasa, after Ms. Brempongmaa invoked the Great Oath (Ntam Kese) against the Abusuapanin last week, accusing him of sidelining her in the burial plans.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ms. Brempongmaa revealed that the Manhyia chiefs have directed both parties to return home and resolve their differences amicably, with a report on the outcome expected by Friday.
“The chiefs have asked my uncle and me to go home and settle the issues amicably. So I am yet to go home and meet my uncle so we can settle the issue peacefully,” she stated.
Despite expressing a willingness to de-escalate the conflict, saying, “I am giving up on my demands,” Ms. Brempongmaa remained unequivocal on one critical point: the necessity of an autopsy.
“… The autopsy would be done no matter what because it is a criminal investigation,” she firmly stated, introducing a new layer of legal procedure to the already complex familial dispute.
She also moved to debunk rumors circulating online, clarifying that the Manhyia Palace has not given a definitive go-ahead for the burial to be held on December 6, 2025. She indicated that the funeral is contingent on a peaceful resolution, warning, “if my wishes are not granted, there is no way the funeral would come off.”
This firm stance on the autopsy suggests that the path to laying the music icon to rest may still be fraught with legal and procedural hurdles, even if the immediate family rift is healed.
