Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has stated that he does not plan to run for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer position in the 2028 elections.
He was responding to a media inquiry regarding speculation that he harboured presidential aspirations and plans to enter the upcoming NPP flag bearer contest.
In an interview with reporters on Wednesday [April 16, 2025], Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh stated that his main focus was on fostering a united party in preparation for the 2028 elections.
Widely recognised as NAPO [Nana Poku], Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who teamed up with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election for the NPP, stated that he is dedicated to backing the party’s campaign and has no intentions of seeking any future leadership position.
“Me, personally? No, I’m not running 2028,” was his response when he was asked by the journalists at the Alisa Hotel on Wednesday where the NPP was holding a national council meeting.
