Akosua Agyapong, a veteran Ghanaian highlife singer, has argued that the traditional concept of abstaining from sex before marriage should be reconsidered and updated, as it often leads to several issues within marriages.
She expressed her belief that the long-standing cultural practice of couples refraining from sexual activity until after marriage should be reevaluated because it is contributing to societal problems.
During her appearance as a guest on Ghone’s Duvet show, she pointed out that this age-old moral principle frequently results in dissatisfaction among partners who did not have the opportunity to know each other sexually before marriage.
The singer further outlined her reasons for advocating this perspective, asserting that engaging in sexual activity before marriage allows both partners to identify and address any issues in their sexual lives, thereby preventing potential marital problems.
”They have to change that ‘no sex before marriage’. Dem for change am now. E dey cause problems a lot. Your man might be impotent, you might know. Maybe your woman too might me something else. It’s a problem o,” she said in pidgin.
Several netizens have agreed with her, while others are convinced upholding traditional values that advocate abstinence is the way to go.
