NOBODY HERE IS GOING TO LOSE THEIR JOB WHILE I AM HERE. I WILL PROTECT YOU” – NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah Assures Demonstrating NSA staff

A group of staff of the National Sports Authority (NSA) staged a demonstration at its headquarters on Thursday against a directive seeking the revocation of their appointments.

The impacted officers, who are reportedly among the 17 recruits whose employment has been questioned in recent weeks, assembled on the Authority’s grounds to protest attempts to terminate their appointments.

The NSA Board ordered the protest after concerns were expressed regarding the recruitment process’s compliance with accepted public service protocols.

Some of the highly emotional employees maintain that they have been employed for months and have made significant contributions to the Authority’s operations.

Claims that the recruits did not complete the necessary clearance procedures in accordance with Ghana’s public sector standards are at the heart of the controversy.

Approval from the appropriate authorities, such as the Public Service Commission and the Finance Ministry, as well as posting job openings and formal interviews by a panel that has been duly constituted, are usually necessary for recruitment into state institutions.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the NSA’s Acting Director General, spoke with the irate employees during the disturbances and gave them the assurance that steps were being taken to resolve the issue.

“At this stadium, even football could not be played here,” Mr Ankrah said as acknowledgement of their contribution.

He added that: “You are Ghanaians. Even if we put politics aside, you guys came when we were down so we cannot abandon you, but there’s miscommunication. There’s a little bit of mischief from some people putting misinformation out there.

“Don’t fall for that trap. If there’s any issue you read online or social media, just come and ask.

“Nobody here is going to lose their job once I am here. I will protect you,” he assured.

He asked employees to remain composed and to let management and the Governing Board handle the situation in the proper manner.

The disagreement arose after Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, met with the NSA Board and management to discuss the matter.

Amid rumors that the appointments were under review, the Minister had already asked the Director-General for employment and employee data.
