NOLLYWOOD ACTOR ODIRA NWOBU DIES SUDDENLY IN SOUTH AFRICA AT 43
The beloved comedian and content creator, known for his babyface and roles in over 60 films, passed away in a Benoni hotel room while on a promotional tour.

The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the sudden death of popular Nollywood actor and content creator Odira Nwobu, who passed away in South Africa on Monday at the age of 43.
The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria and the actor’s legal representative confirmed the tragic news to the BBC, sending shockwaves through the entertainment community in Nigeria and beyond.
According to lawyer Chukwujiekwu Chukwudi, who was traveling with Nwobu, the actor was discovered alone in his hotel room in Benoni, near Johannesburg, “gasping for breath.” Emergency services were immediately called, and paramedics attempted resuscitation using a defibrillator, but Nwobu was pronounced dead at the scene.
The actor had been visiting South Africa with a group of social media influencers to promote a Nigerian-owned real estate company, according to Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria.
Born in Enugu State in 1982, Nwobu began his acting career straight out of secondary school with a role in “Joseph the Dreamer” and went on to appear in more than 60 films. Despite his success, he had spoken about feeling typecast, which led him to embrace content creation on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, where he amassed hundreds of thousands of followers.
The cause of death remains unknown, and a coroner’s report is pending. The news has prompted an outpouring of grief online from fans and colleagues, with many remembering his comedic talent and distinctive babyface. This tragedy comes just months after Nwobu survived a serious road accident in July that had sparked false rumors of his death.
