NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER JAILED FOR LIFE, GETS 120 YEARS FOR KILLING PHARMACIST IN KUMASI
A Kumasi High Court has condemned a notorious armed robber, Dominic Afriyie, commonly referred to as GH, to life imprisonment for homicide and an extra 120 years of hard labour for two robbery charges.
The statement follows his sentencing for the armed assault and murder of a 43-year-old pharmacist and contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu, at his home in Atasemanso, Kumasi, in November 2021.
The court, led by His Honour Abdul Razak and a jury of seven, determined that 36-year-old Afriyie was guilty following a complete trial. He had entered a not guilty plea to every accusation.
On November 20, 2021, the criminal invaded the residence of Mr. Klu and his family while armed. He took two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash before fatally shooting Mr. Klu.
After weeks of investigation, police gathered information on December 30, 2021, regarding a planned heist in the same Atasemanso region.
A surveillance operation was promptly initiated, resulting in the arrest of Afriyie along with three others at approximately 2:20 a.m. on December 31, 2021. They were stopped in a Toyota Corolla with the registration number AS 5970-20.
An examination of the car uncovered two handguns and two single-barrel shotguns. Nonetheless, additional inquiries verified that Dominic Afriyie operated solo in the theft and killing of Mr. Klu.
The sentencing provides resolution to a case that astonished the Atasemanso community and ignited public anger.
