NPP IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL – Akufo-Addo
Former President urges unity ahead of January 31 flagbearer primary

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on all New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirants and their supporters to put the party’s unity above personal ambition as the race to select the next presidential candidate intensifies.
Speaking at the signing of a peace pact in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the former president reminded stakeholders that the strength and survival of the NPP depends on cohesion and discipline.
“Let me be clear. The NPP is bigger than any individual. No ambition or faction is greater than the elephant,” Akufo-Addo said.
He stressed that internal contests should not fracture the party’s foundation, but rather deepen its democratic credentials.
“Unity is not an option. Unity is not a slogan. Unity is a strategic necessity for victory,” he declared.
Akufo-Addo urged aspirants to treat the peace pact not as a formality, but as a solemn commitment to maintain peace and support the party regardless of the primary outcome.
“So I charge all of you: this peace pact must not only be signed, it must be lived,” he added.
The event brought together all five aspirants and senior party officials, reaffirming their dedication to a peaceful and united front as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
