NPP SUMMONS ADWOA SAFO FOR DISCIPLINARY HEARING OVER POST-ELECTION COMMENTS

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has summoned former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo to appear before its Disciplinary Committee on Monday, April 7, 2025, over recent public comments regarding the party’s 2024 electoral defeat.

The hearing notice, dated March 24, 2025 and signed by Disciplinary Committee Secretary Patrick Boamah and Director of Finance and Administration William Yamoah, requires Safo to appear at 11:00 a.m. at the NPP Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.

According to the notice seen by Ghana News Agency, the former Gender Minister may bring legal representation and any relevant documents or witnesses to the proceedings. The party’s General Secretary has provided a referral letter outlining the matters under investigation.

The summons comes amid the NPP’s post-election review process following its loss in the 2024 general elections. While the notice did not specify which of Safo’s remarks prompted the hearing, sources suggest it relates to her recent media commentary on the party’s electoral performance.

The NPP emphasized its commitment to due process in the notice, which was copied to the National Chairman, General Secretary and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.

This marks another chapter in Safo’s sometimes turbulent relationship with the party leadership. The former MP previously faced criticism for prolonged absences from Parliament in 2021-2022 that nearly cost the NPP crucial votes.

Party officials declined to speculate on potential outcomes, stating only that the committee would follow established procedures. Safo could face sanctions ranging from a reprimand to suspension of party membership depending on the findings.

The Dome Kwabenya constituency office confirmed receiving the notice but said Safo had not yet made any public statement regarding her response to the summons.

The Disciplinary Committee is expected to issue its ruling within 14 days of the hearing. The decision could be appealed to the party’s National Executive Committee.
