NPP TO ELECT 2028 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE LATEST BY JANUARY 2026

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential nominee for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has disclosed that the NPP intends to choose its 2028 presidential candidate by January of next year at the latest.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that the NPP chose its presidential candidate for 2024 in November, providing John Mahama an edge since he was already the NDC’s candidate and had been travelling across the country.

Dr. Bawumia stated that the NPP lacked time for reconciliation following their internal elections due to significant fallout from numerous constituencies.

Speaking to some members of the NPP, Dr Bawumia stated, “We elected our presidential candidate a bit late in the day. We elected our presidential candidate in November by that time Mahama who had been elected by the NDC much earlier had already toured the country, giving him an advantage and we had spent three years on an internal election that divided the party.

There was no time for reconciliation, I had to hurry to get into the field to begin the campaign because Mahama was already ahead. Reconciling people at all levels of the constituency was difficult and we didn’t have enough time to do that.

There were a lot of problems in the constituency involving the elections”.

He added, “Now, we are working on a proposal that, by January at the latest, all elections from polling stations to flagbearers will be completed, so we have three years to prepare for the 2028 elections and we have enough time to also do reconciliation”.
