NSA PAYROLL SCAM: KWAKU OHENE GYAN ARRESTED, GIFTY OWARE-MENSAH ON THE RUN
Former Deputy Director of Operations at the National Service Authority (NSA), Kwaku Ohene Gyan, has been arrested over alleged payroll irregularities, including the insertion of ghost names. Meanwhile, Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA, is reportedly on the run as authorities intensify efforts to locate her.
Kwaku Ohene Gyan, popularly known as Osonoba, was apprehended by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Saturday evening, February 22, 2025, and is currently being held at the NIB offices. The investigation centers on the inclusion of phantom names on the NSA payroll, a scheme that has allegedly caused significant financial losses to the state.
Government sources indicate that Gifty Oware-Mensah, a key figure in the scandal, has gone into hiding. Security agencies are actively pursuing her for questioning as part of the broader probe into the payroll scam.
The arrest of Ohene Gyan and the search for Oware-Mensah are part of a wider government initiative to combat corruption and restore accountability in public institutions. This comes on the heels of the recent detention of Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), who was implicated in the $2 million Sky Train scandal.
Ohene Gyan’s legal team is expected to meet with him to explore legal options for his release. However, authorities remain focused on uncovering the full extent of the payroll irregularities and holding all involved parties accountable.
The NSA payroll scam has raised serious concerns about financial mismanagement and the need for stricter oversight in public sector institutions. As investigations continue, the government has vowed to pursue all individuals implicated in the scheme, signaling a no-tolerance stance on corruption.
