OUR PROBLEMS IN THE COUNTRY IS BECAUSE OF OUR AUTOMATIC RESPECT FOR ELDERS – Kojo Cue

Ghanaian rapper, Kojo Cue believes that the country’s issues are a result of not holding many elderly people accountable for their actions because of the value placed on “respect.”

On August 8, 2024, the rapper made a strong statement on his X account, highlighting how unquestioningly respecting elders in Ghana, regardless of their behavior, has led to several societal problems.

“All of our problems in this country are rooted in how we are socialised to give adults respect and grace no matter what they do. Everything that is messed up has its roots in this automatic respect for elders,” he stated.

He highlighted how this mentality stops individuals from speaking up against harmful actions, even in situations of abuse where victims are advised to keep showing respect to their abusers.

“People are raped by uncles and aunties and expected to live under the same roof with them as well as respect them. You want respect so much but you won’t respect yourself?” Kojo Cue noted.

His remarks follow current conversations on family and social relationships, initiated by disclosures from well-known personalities like popular influencer, Gisela Amponsah.

In a recent podcast, a previous Miss Malaika contestant talked about her difficult relationship with her biological father.

Gisela disclosed that she and her father have disagreements and labeled him as a “demon.”

She revealed that her father has harbored negative feelings towards her since she was a child, which has led to her struggling with trust and feeling unworthy.
