OVER 334,000 PEOPLE IN GHANA CURRENTLY LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS

The Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET) has urged people in Ghana to prioritize their health and well-being as they prepare to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day on February 14, 2025, along with the rest of the world.

They emphasized the importance of young people avoiding risky sexual behaviours to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

This message was shared in a statement to the Ghana News Agency, signed by GHANET President Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, as part of their ongoing efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

With almost 30 years of experience in fighting against HIV and AIDS, GHANET is concerned about the continuous increase in HIV infections, despite many efforts to curb the spread.

As of December 2023, about 334,000 people in Ghana were estimated to be living with HIV.

Alarmingly, between January and September 2024, approximately 35,460 new cases were diagnosed, highlighting the urgent need for improved prevention measures.
