OVER 80 PUBLIC SERVANTS FACING EVICTION FROM GOVERNMENT FLATS AT RIDGE

More than 80 public servants, including directors, deputy directors, and senior technocrats from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), are being asked to vacate government flats at Ridge in Accra. The eviction notice, issued by the Office of the President, gives the occupants until Monday, March 3, 2025, to move out.

The affected area comprises 11 blocks, each containing 8 flats. A notice posted on the buildings reads: “Notice is hereby served to the occupants of this accommodation to pack out of this facility. Occupants have ten days to vacate the premises. Due Date is Monday, 3 March 2025 by 1:00 PM. Occupants are to note that no extensions will be granted.”

The Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, confirmed the eviction notice in an interview with GhanaWeb on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He stated that CLOGSAG is engaging with the Chief Director of the Ministry of Works and Housing to understand the rationale behind the decision.

“We have just been told, so we are liaising with the chief director to actually appreciate what is happening. In due course, we will come out with a statement. That is what we are being told, and that is what they are telling us. We are getting in touch with the chief director to give us her side of the issue,” Dr. Bampoe Addo said.

The eviction, if enforced, will not only displace the senior public servants but also affect hundreds of their dependents living with them. Residents have alleged that the move is politically motivated, claiming that members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are behind the eviction attempts. However, these claims remain unconfirmed.
