PARLIAMENT OFFICIALLY SCRAPS COVID-19 LEVY

Ghana’s Parliament has formally repealed the COVID‑19 Health Recovery Levy (often called the “COVID-19 Levy”), marking the end of a nearly four-year-long additional charge on goods and services.
The levy was introduced in 2021 under the earlier administration as part of efforts to fund Ghana’s pandemic response and stabilise public finances.
Scrapping the COVID-19 Levy is a symbolic and practical shift: a break from pandemic-era emergency taxation toward what the government positions as a more sustainable, growth-oriented tax regime. If managed well, it could ease the cost of living, support small businesses, and foster a more favorable business environment. .
For many Ghanaians, it offers renewed hope that the economy is gradually resetting — not just in rhetoric, but in concrete relief.
