PATRICK BOAMAH REJECTS MINORITY LEADER POSITION, BACKS AFENYO-MARKIN

The Okaikwei Central MP has dismissed rumors of a leadership challenge, emphasizing his close friendship with the current Minority Leader and the need for party unity to regain power.

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has publicly shut down rumors that he is positioning himself to become the next Minority Leader, reaffirming his support for the current leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, November 17, 2025, Boamah described the speculation as surprising, citing his long-standing and close personal relationship with Afenyo-Markin.

“There is nobody in Parliament who knows Afenyo-Markin more than I do. We’ve been friends for years and we’re still very close. We share ideas all the time,” he stated.

Boamah recalled his previous support for Afenyo-Markin, highlighting that he was one of the key figures who defended him against an attempt to remove him as Majority Leader during the 9th Parliament. He stressed that his current focus is not on internal leadership contests but on the broader goal of helping the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regroup and win back power.

“I’m not interested in the Minority Leader position. We need to be strategic… It doesn’t help unity,” he noted, emphasizing that internal discussions should remain private for the sake of cohesion.

When questioned about potential presidential ambitions, the MP was circumspect, neither confirming nor ruling out a future bid. “God has His time for everything. I am qualified to run for the presidential primaries, but I believe everything must happen at the right time,” he explained, keeping his long-term political options open while prioritizing immediate party solidarity.
