PAYSTACK SUSPENDS CO-FOUNDER EZRA OLUBI OVER SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATION
The leading African fintech firm has launched a formal investigation after allegations surfaced online, a case that has ignited a broader conversation about accountability in the tech ecosystem.

Nigerian payments company Paystack has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a sexual misconduct allegation made public on social media.
The allegation, which surfaced on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, involves a junior staff member. Paystack, which is owned by the global financial giant Stripe, confirmed the suspension and the launch of a formal investigation to TechCabal.
“The board is appointing an independent investigator to ensure the process is fair and confidential,” a company statement said, adding that it would not comment further until the investigation is concluded.
The controversy deepened as old tweets from Olubi’s X (formerly Twitter) account, dating from 2009 to 2013, resurfaced online. The tweets contained sexually explicit and inappropriate remarks, including one from 2011 that read: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.” Olubi has not publicly addressed the allegations and deactivated his X account on Thursday.
As one of Africa’s most prominent tech success stories, having been acquired by Stripe for $200 million in 2020, Paystack’s handling of this case is being closely watched. The incident has sparked a wider discussion about workplace culture and the accountability of leadership within Africa’s rapidly growing tech industry.
