Media personality, Abena Moet has stirred up conversation with her strong belief that people don’t really care deeply about celebrities, saying that public interest is short-lived.
While speaking on The Toast show on GHOne, she emphasized that fame doesn’t last forever and depends largely on how much celebrities are in the public eye.
“Time and time again, we think we’re too important, but the truth is, people don’t really care about us,” she stated. “If people cared, why would they go under a celebrity’s post just to say, ‘I wish you guys break up’?”
Her views led to a lively discussion among the panel members. Achaawa Sackey disagreed with her, but Moet held her ground, using Moesha Boduong as an example to support her point.
“Moesha was one of the biggest celebrities at a point, but ask yourself, when was the last time anybody asked about her?” she questioned. “Unless you’re Beyoncé and Jay-Z, nobody really remembers you once you’re out of sight.”
She explained further that social media algorithms push certain content to people’s attention, causing them to react for a short time.
However, when a celebrity is no longer visible, people tend to quickly forget about them.
“New celebrities come up every day,” she added. “People move on. That’s just how it is.”
