PEOPLE SAID ‘FOREVER’ WOULD BE MY LAST BIG SONG – Gyakie Opens Up

Ghanaian Afro-fusion singer Gyakie shares candid reflections on handling online negativity and staying focused amid rising fame.

Ghana’s rising R&B and Afro-fusion star, Gyakie, has revealed the emotional toll that social media criticism has had on her career and mental health. Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on May 28, 2025, the “Forever” hitmaker recounted how the viral success of her breakout song brought both fame and harsh judgments.

“After ‘Forever’ blew up, I got so many negative comments. People said that was going to be my last big song and I wouldn’t be able to make another hit. It wasn’t a nice feeling. But I signed up for this, and I’ve had to learn to deal with it,” Gyakie said.

The 25-year-old artist, born Jacqueline Acheampong, disclosed that the barrage of negativity led her to change how she engages with social media. To protect her mental space, she turned off all notifications and now accesses comments selectively, focusing instead on her music and real-life connections.

“The internet is very addictive. If you let the information on there get into your mind and soul, it can be harmful,” she noted. Gyakie urged fans to consider the impact of their words, saying, “Sometimes, before you pass a comment, just imagine if it was done to you. Would you like it?”

Gyakie’s rise to prominence began in 2020 with “Forever,” a song that topped charts across Africa and introduced her unique blend of Afrobeat, R&B, and highlife to a global audience. Daughter of legendary Ghanaian musician Nana Acheampong, she is now promoting her latest single, “Sankofa,” which encourages listeners to reconnect with their roots despite challenges.

Despite the hurdles, Gyakie remains focused and committed to her craft. “It’s better when people support you and tell you that you can do it. But that’s not always the society we live in. So you just keep going,” she affirmed.
