Photos: KENTE FASHION AT AKUFO-ADDO’S INAUGURATION

The swearing-in of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo will go down in the history of Ghana as one of the most colorful national event.

Hundreds of dignitaries wore different colours, styles and patterns of Ghana’s unique Kente during the swearing-in of the 5th President of the 4th Republic Saturday at the Independence square.

New President Nana Akufo-Addo led the way, gracing the occasion with a very colourful Kente cloth wrapped around his body, First Lady Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Members of Parliament, Statesmen, Media Personalities, Lawyers, Chiefs, Traditional Rulers and the general public showcased our rich Kente fashion.

Kente is a brilliantly colourful fabric, entirely hand-woven by Ghanaian weavers.

Almost everyone who graced the occasion was adorned in the Kente cloth.

Every design has a story with a proverbial meaning, giving each cloth its own distinction.

Women wear the cloth in 2 pieces – 1 piece about 2 yards long and 45 inches wide wrapped round the waist to form a floor-length skirt worn over a blouse specially sewn in plain material. The other Kente piece will either hung loosely over the arm or used as a shawl.

Men wear the cloth in much the same way as the ‘Toga’ was worn by the ancient Greek.
