Popular Ghanaian actress and media personality, Nana Ama McBrown, has asked the US Embassy in Ghana to review her visa ban.
In March 2023, it was revealed that she had been deported from the United States in 2001 because her uncle, Papa Kofi McBrown, tried to bring her there because of her skills.
Even though she tried to get visas for different countries, such as Libya, she claimed she was refused a visa for the United States and experienced disapproval from her relatives.
During an interview with broadcaster Bola Ray, McBrown appealed to the embassy to take her records and true intentions into account.
“I’ll beg them to please reconsider me, look at my records, I am not a bad person. I’ve never been a bad person because I really know what I’ve done and I want to correct it,” she said.
She also emphasized the worries and concerns that many Ghanaians experience when visiting the embassy.
She believes this makes them deceitful in their submissions.
“This thing about Ghanaians. When we are going to the embassy, we are very scared. We start shaking and for that matter, we keep lying. Sometimes we feel like when we see a White person and we don’t get the visa, we are going to die or the person will kill us. Because of that, we always keep losing or missing our chances,” she explained.
McBrown urged Ghanaians to uphold integrity in their visa applications, pointing out that current technology logs every information, including fingerprints.
“Now, if you’re going to the embassy, things have changed. Our details, fingerprints, everything is there. So we should do things right.
“I will say to everybody: go genuinely. Because the records will be there forever. And if you keep lying, it will go against you,” McBrown urged.
