The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 12 individuals for stealing and damaging government property in different regions of the nation.
As stated in a release on 8 December 2024, initial inquiries indicated that the accused participated in assaults on public assets, such as the incineration of the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, Savannah Region.
The assaults also aimed at the homes of District Chief Executives (DCEs) and led to damage at various collation centres.
Furthermore, several of the suspects were discovered to have infiltrated the School Feeding Project Warehouse located in Tamale, Northern Region, where they took food supplies and various other items.
Law enforcement has obtained video recordings of the events, which are now under review by detectives aiming to recognize and capture additional people linked to the vandalism and theft.
Officials have promised the community that they will enhance patrols and strategically position officers to uphold law and order.
“We urge the public to remain calm as Police officers have been strategically deployed to key locations with intensified patrols,” the statement said.
