POLICE ARREST 88 ALLEGEDLY RECRUITED FOR NPP ELECTION SECURITY IN JUABOSO

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 88 individuals in the Juaboso district of the Western North Region, allegedly recruited by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to serve as election security personnel for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The group of 86 men and two women was intercepted while traveling in two Metro Mass Transit buses with registration numbers “GN 5148-22” and “GN 5177-23.” Police sources confirmed the arrest to Pulse News, indicating that investigations are underway to determine the purpose and legitimacy of their recruitment.

The interception occurred during a routine police operation to ensure security in the lead-up to the elections. Authorities have not disclosed whether the individuals were armed or in possession of any items related to security duties.

The ruling party has yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations of recruiting civilians for election security. This matter has sparked widespread conversation about political party activities and their impact on national security during election periods.

Election-related security has become a contentious issue in Ghana in recent years, with concerns raised over the involvement of unregulated groups in election monitoring and protection roles. The arrest of the 88 individuals has reignited debates on the need for stricter regulations to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order as the 2024 elections approach. Meanwhile, the arrested individuals are in custody, awaiting further investigations and potential charges.
