The Ghana Police Service has apprehended nine individuals in connection with an arson incident targeting the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Ayensuano, located in the Eastern Region.
This incident occurred in the wake of heightened tensions following the announcement of election results on Monday, December 9, when the Ayensuano EC office was subjected to an attack.
The suspects are reported to have set fire to the facility during a protest, prompting widespread condemnation. The fire destroyed election equipment and supplies utilized in the recent general elections held on December 7.
Chief Inspector Priscilla Nkrumah Peprah has assured the public that the police are committed to maintaining law and order.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested nine suspects in connection with the certain ablaze of the Electoral Commission Office at Ayensuano in the eastern region. This arrest brings the total number of suspects so far arrested in connection with the post-election disturbances to 106, all of whom are currently undergoing due legal processes.
“We wish to once again assure the public that the police and the other security agencies are committed to the protection of our communities to maintain law and order.”
