Suspect in custody as police vow firm action against domestic violence

The Ghana Police Service has arrested social media personality Christford Affadu Danful, popularly known as Ekow Black, following the circulation of a viral video showing him physically assaulting a woman.
In a statement issued on January 15 via its official Facebook page, the Police confirmed that Danful was apprehended through an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team.
“The Ghana Police Service, through the Criminal Investigation Department, has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and the woman involved had previously lived together and had a history of ongoing disputes. These disagreements reportedly escalated into verbal and physical altercations prior to the assault captured in the video.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the public, with social media users calling for swift justice and stronger action against domestic and gender-based violence, particularly involving public figures or influencers.
Danful, known for his online content and presence on social media platforms, is currently in police custody. “Suspect Danful is currently in lawful custody and is expected to be put before the court to face charges in accordance with the law,” the Police said.
The statement also reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s zero-tolerance stance on acts of violence, regardless of the profile or public standing of the offender.
“The Ghana Police Service reassures the public of its commitment to protecting lives, upholding the law, and ensuring that acts of violence are dealt with decisively,” the statement concluded.
The case is expected to proceed to court in the coming days, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
