POLICE ARREST SUSPECT LINKED TO KASOA SHOOTING DURING 2024 POLLS
Suraj Mujahid apprehended after months in hiding following election day incident

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Mujahid Suraj, also known as Mims, in connection with the shooting incident that occurred at the Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general election.
Suraj had gone into hiding after allegedly discharging a pump-action gun at the polling centre, injuring a voter in the process. The incident, which took place on election day, was widely reported and drew public condemnation.
Eyewitnesses told Citi News that the intended target of the attack was Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, Suraj reportedly missed and struck an unrelated voter who had visited the centre to cast his ballot.
While some observers at the time linked the shooting to political tensions, others pointed to an ongoing personal feud between the suspect and Mr Tanko.
After months on the run, the suspect was arrested on the night of Saturday, January 17, 2026, by officers from the Kasoa Divisional Command. Police sources confirmed that intelligence led them to Suraj’s residence at Odupongkpehe Zongo in Kasoa, where he was apprehended without incident.
He is currently in custody and under investigation. Police say the suspect will face prosecution following the completion of their inquiries.
