POLICE DESTROY 600 SACKS OF NARCOTICS VALUED AT GH¢4.2 BILLION IN HO
The massive haul of Indian hemp, seized in 2022, was incinerated under a court order, concluding a major drug case in the Volta Region.

The Volta Regional Police Command has publicly destroyed a massive consignment of narcotics, incinerating six hundred sacks of Indian hemp with an estimated street value of GH¢4.2 billion.
The destruction exercise, which took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, was carried out on the orders of the Ho Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Felix Datsumor. The drugs, weighing a total of 47,530 kilograms, were central exhibits in the concluded case of The Republic vs. Yao Kwadwo @Wallako and Two Others.
According to a police statement, the incineration began around 2:30 PM at the Klefe dumping site and was completed by 10:30 PM, ensuring the exhibits were completely burnt.
The operation was conducted under strict supervision to ensure transparency and compliance. Officials present included:
- Mr. Moses Dzanfi, Circuit Court Registrar
- Mr. Joseph Opusomah, State Attorney
- Mr. Daniel John Pekyi, Narcotic Control Commission (NACOC)
- Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The process was also witnessed by personnel from the National Security and the media.
The Regional Police Command, in its statement, expressed appreciation for the support of all stakeholders involved in the fight against the drug menace. This public destruction marks a significant milestone in a major drug interdiction effort that began with the seizure in 2022.
