POLICE RETRIEVE VEHICLE USED IN ADABRAKA GOLD JEWELLERY SHOP ROBBERY

Suspect arrested in Ashaiman as investigations into GH₵7.5mn heist continue

The Ghana Police Service has retrieved a Toyota Highlander vehicle believed to have been used in the high-profile robbery of a gold jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, in November 2024.

In a statement issued on January 16, 2026, police confirmed that the vehicle was recovered from its alleged owner, Abdul Samid Larry, also known as “Touch”, during an operation in Ashaiman Lebanon on January 15. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the vehicle, identified as an exhibit in the robbery case, has been impounded for further investigations.

The police said Mr Larry is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations to determine his role in the robbery and to help trace other individuals involved.

“The retrieval of the vehicle forms part of ongoing investigations into the Adabraka Gold Jewellery Shop robbery,” the statement said, assuring the public that efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice remain active.

The daylight robbery, which occurred on November 2, 2024, involved a gang of heavily armed and masked men who intercepted a red Toyota Corolla carrying cash from a gold transaction near the Adabraka Market. The attackers used a silver vehicle to block the target car, fired multiple warning shots to disperse the crowd, and scattered cash to cause confusion during their escape. An estimated GH₵7.5mn was stolen, and the driver of the cash vehicle sustained injuries.

The case has seen multiple developments, including the arrest of two suspects Hamza Agerego (alias Nene Bawku) and Alhassan Elliasu (alias Arab Man) at separate hideouts in Ashaiman on January 7, 2026. Police recovered weapons including two pump-action guns, AK-47 ammunition, bulletproof vests, face masks, and a CCTV monitor during the operation.

A key suspect, Salim Mohammed (alias Fariwata or Bawasam), was earlier arrested in late 2025 at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he was receiving medical treatment.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have pledged to update the public as the case progresses.
