POLICE SEIZE NEARLY 6,000 PARCELS OF SUSPECTED INDIAN HEMP ON VOLTA LAKE; THREE ARRESTED
Three people have been taken into custody by the Eastern North Regional Police Command in relation to a significant drug trafficking scheme involving substantial amounts of alleged Indian hemp on the Volta Lake.
When Abraham Agonu, Michael Akuaku, and Confidence Amenuveve attempted to transport 5,950 compressed and some non-compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp across the lake at Asuboni, close to Kwahu Adawso, on May 28, 2025, they were caught.
Preliminary investigations, according to police sources, suggest that a man only identified as Felix planned the operation after he allegedly boarded a different boat that was thought to be traveling toward the Akate region.
Felix and other accomplices thought to be part of the trafficking syndicate are being sought by police in a manhunt.
A pump-action shotgun, two outboard motors, a large engine boat that is thought to have been used for transporting the illicit cargo, and 85 maxi sacks carrying the alleged drugs were recovered from the arrested individuals.
This interception, according to the Eastern North Regional Police Command, is a part of a larger campaign against drug trafficking in the area, particularly in the vicinity of Volta Lake, which is increasingly being used as a transit route.
The public has been asked by authorities to come forward with any information that would help Felix and his associates be apprehended. The detained suspects are helping law enforcement with their continuing investigations.
