The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa referred to the result of the recent elections as a “remarkable” political resurgence.
During an interview with TV3’s Alfred Ocansey about the recent elections monitored by mynewsgh, Mr. Ablakwa lambasted the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, calling its leadership “reckless.”
Commenting on the NPP’s loss, Mr. Ablakwa pointed to the contentious “National Cathedral” initiative, which he described as superfluous.
He believes that the money set aside for the project could have been utilized to compensate government employees who struck due to unpaid wages, along with NABCO workers who never got their payments.
“The government claimed they had no money to pay workers, yet they spent $58 million to dig a hole. This has been the most reckless government the world has ever known.
Every category of government workers, from mortuary attendants to healthcare practitioners, went on strike,” he stated.
Contemplating the election outcomes, Mr. Ablakwa stressed that when individuals grant a political party authority, it should not serve as a justification for corruption and abuse.
“These results show that when the people give you power, it does not grant you the opportunity to loot, impoverish the citizens, or ruin the economy,” he concluded.
