PRE-DAWN POLICE SWEEP IN OBUASI NABS 40, SEIZES DRUGS
Five-hour coordinated operation targets suspected hideouts and "ghettos" across multiple suburbs in anti-crime crackdown.

A coordinated police operation before dawn on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of 40 suspects across several suburbs of Obuasi, authorities confirmed.
The operation, which ran from 5:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., targeted locations described by police as hideouts for criminals and drug peddlers. It was led by ASP Adam Muakalu and involved personnel from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District Police, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base.
According to a police situational report, raids were conducted in the areas of Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso.
Breakdown of the Raids
In Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested. Officers recovered a black polythene bag containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, found behind the arrest location.
At Kunka Junction, one suspect was found with a wrapped package of similar leaves. Eleven others were arrested after attempting to flee police, who pursued and rounded them up.
The operation moved to Abompe, where several suspects were arrested at a “ghetto” where they were allegedly smoking. Police retrieved two bottles of alcohol suspected of being laced with cannabis.
In Akaporiso, another quantity of suspected cannabis was retrieved from a suspect. Additional arrests were made behind an uncompleted building where individuals were allegedly smoking and drinking alcohol.
A pack of Tramadol was also seized during the operation.All 40 suspects are in custody assisting with investigations. Seized items have been retained for forensic examination.
“Suspects found in possession of illegal substances will be arraigned before court as soon as possible,” police stated.
Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen of the Obuasi District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID) assured residents that such operations would be sustained.
“We will continue to clamp down on criminal activities to improve safety in the municipality,” he said.
