PRESIDENT MAHAMA VISITS 37 MILITARY HOSPITAL AFTER EL-WAK STAMPEDE THAT KILLED SIX
The President was briefed on the tragic incident as details emerge that 28 people were hospitalized, with five in the ICU and 12 in critical condition, many of them reportedly women.

President John Mahama has visited the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to receive firsthand information and offer comfort following the deadly stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium that claimed the lives of six potential recruits.
The President was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and the Acting Defence Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson. His visit comes a day after the tragic incident during a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, where a surge of applicants breached security, leading to a fatal crush.
According to military officials, 28 people were conveyed to the hospital. Of that number, six have been confirmed dead, five are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 12 others remain in critical condition. Although official identities have not been released, sources indicate that the deceased are mostly women.
The GAF, in an earlier statement, said the stampede occurred around 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday when an “unexpected surge of applicants… breached security protocols and rushed into the gates.” The force has extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
President Mahama’s visit underscores the national gravity of the tragedy, which has cast a spotlight on the desperation for employment opportunities among Ghana’s youth and the safety protocols surrounding mass public exercises.
