PRESIDENT TRUMP IMPOSES TRAVEL BAN ON 12 COUNTRIES EFFECTIVE JUNE 9, 2025
U.S. President Donald Trump has officially signed an executive order imposing travel restrictions on citizens from 12 countries, beginning June 9, 2025. This measure, he stated, aims to “protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors.”
Countries fully banned from traveling to the U.S. include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Additionally, citizens from seven countries, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela, face partial travel restrictions.
Announcing the decision, President Trump cited recent security concerns, notably referencing the Colorado attack. The administration clarified that certain exemptions would apply, such as athletes attending major sporting events, specific Afghan nationals, and dual citizens holding passports from unaffected countries.
President Trump’s travel ban fulfills a key campaign promise from his successful 2024 election campaign, although it is expected to draw immediate legal challenges and significant political debate.
This latest action follows his recent decision to suspend the admission of foreign students to Harvard University for six months and order an investigation into former President Joe Biden’s activities while in office.
