Actor Prince David Osei has cleared the air on allegations that he insulted President-Elect John Mahama on social media, describing the incident as a misunderstanding caused by his cousins, who had access to his phone during a period of intense online trolling. Speaking on the Daybreak Hitz show, Osei explained that he was not responsible for the controversial comments attributed to his page.
According to the actor, the controversy began after he congratulated the President-Elect and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their victory. Despite his message of peace, his post was met with an onslaught of insults on social media. “I congratulated the President-Elect and urged for peace after the elections, but I started getting a lot of attacks on Twitter,” he recounted.
Osei revealed that he stepped away from his phone amidst the bullying, leaving it in the hands of his cousins and friends. “Normally, when the trolling gets too much, I leave the phone for my cousins or friends. Later, I woke up to news that I had insulted the President-Elect, but I knew I didn’t post anything like that,” he explained.
Upon investigation, Osei discovered that his cousins had responded to some of the comments under his post. “They admitted that they replied to some of the insults, but they didn’t type anything derogatory about the President-Elect. Unfortunately, people had already taken screenshots and were sharing them online,” he stated.
The actor expressed regret over the incident and issued an apology for the misunderstanding, emphasizing that he would never insult an elderly person. “One thing I will never do is insult an elderly. It’s unfortunate that this happened, but it wasn’t me. I’ve always respected people’s opinions, even if they insult me,” he clarified.
Osei’s handling of the situation highlights the challenges public figures face with social media trolling and the importance of maintaining professionalism, even in the face of personal attacks. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace and unity, urging followers to engage constructively online.
