MOTHER OF NIGERIAN BOXER WHO DIED IN THE BOXING RING IN GHANA CRIES FOR JUSTICE, ALLEGES FOUL PLAY

The mother of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju has spoken out following her son’s tragic death.

Gabriel died at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after collapsing during a fight. He was facing John Mbanugu, a Ghanaian boxer, in Accra, Ghana.

In the third round of their 8-round match, Gabriel lost consciousness. Medical staff attended to him at the Bukom Boxing Arena before he was rushed to the hospital.

Sadly, Gabriel couldn’t be saved and was pronounced dead just 30 minutes after reaching the hospital.

A recent video showing Gabriel’s mother has surfaced online. In it, she is crying and suggesting there was wrongdoing in the fight.

Speaking in her native language, she claims that someone threatened Gabriel before the fight, telling him to withdraw. He didn’t back down, and she believes this led to his untimely death.

She said, “Olarenwaju Segun is my only child. He was sent threatening messages to forfeit the match but he refused, we only saw the message after he di,e,d in the same match. Please Nigerians, help me seek justice for my son,”
The exact cause of Gabriel’s death is not known yet. The Ghana Boxing Authority says an autopsy is being conducted to determine what happened.
