RECRUITMENT FOR POLICE, PRISONS, OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES POSTPONED TO NOV. 17
The Interior Ministry has delayed the exercise following the tragic and fatal stampede at the El Wak Stadium during a separate military recruitment drive, promising enhanced safety measures.

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced a postponement of the nationwide recruitment exercise for key security services in the wake of a deadly stampede during a military recruitment drive.
The recruitment for the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana Prisons Service, which was scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 15, will now commence on Monday, November 17, 2025.
The decision, communicated on Friday, November 14, comes as a direct response to the tragic incident at the El Wak Sports Stadium, where a rush of applicants led to a stampede. The Ministry confirmed that the event resulted in six fatalities and left 12 others in critical condition, with five individuals receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. A separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi also recorded five injuries.
In his announcement, the Interior Minister stated that an updated schedule for the rescheduled recruitment would be published in national newspapers, on official social media platforms, and through the relevant ministries and agencies.
The Ministry has assured the public that additional safety measures will be implemented to prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy as investigations into the El Wak incident continue. The postponement is intended to allow for a thorough review and strengthening of crowd control and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all future applicants.
