As she asked for her son’s suspension to be lifted, Richmond Lamptey’s mother, an Asante Kotoko midfielder, was unable to contain her tears.
Due to his involvement in the Ashanti Gold vs. Inter Allies match-fixing affair, Lamptey was given a 30-month suspension from any football-related activities in May.
The 25-year-old was a member of the Inter Allies roster during the previous campaign and took part in the contentious 7-0 loss to Ashanti Gold in that match.
Lamptey’s punishment will start to take effect in the upcoming season, according to a decision made by the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee on the matter.
As a result, the midfielder, who joined Kotoko at the beginning of the previous campaign, was able to play for the Porcupine Warriors through the end of the 2021–22 campaign, assisting the team in winning the league.
“Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations,” a section of the ruling said.
Reacting to her son’s ban, Lamptey’s mother shed tears as she spoke on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
“In the said match, he was substituted before the own goals were scored. I have cried as a result of this. I don’t want him to sit home, he is my only son,” she said.
“The boy who named him often asks my son for money but because he doesn’t give him, he decided to include him.”
