RWANDA BUILDS NEW HOMES FOR HOMELESS AND FAMILIES IN HIGH-RISK AREAS TO ENHANCE SAFETY AND STABILITY

Government initiative provides permanent housing with legal ownership to vulnerable populations.

Rwanda is undertaking a major housing initiative aimed at providing safe and permanent homes for vulnerable groups, including the homeless and families living in disaster-prone areas. This project is part of the government’s effort to reduce risks associated with natural disasters and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

To date, a total of 793 houses have been constructed under this program. Out of these, 310 homes have already been handed over to 172 families, each accompanied by legal documents and land titles that grant secure ownership and a foundation for a stable future.

This initiative not only offers shelter but also empowers beneficiaries by ensuring their legal rights to the properties, fostering long-term socio-economic stability.

By relocating families from high-risk zones to safer, purpose-built communities, Rwanda aims to mitigate the impact of natural calamities such as floods and landslides, while promoting resilience and development.

The government continues to focus on expanding this housing effort to provide more families with secure homes, contributing to a safer and more prosperous Rwanda.
