RWANDA SHUTS DOWN 6,000 CHURCHES, SAYS CHURCH LEADERS ARE USING RELIGION TO EXPLOIT PEOPLE

Rwanda has reportedly shut down more than 6,000 churches over several years as part of government reforms aimed at regulating religious institutions.

Authorities say the closures targeted unregistered churches and leaders accused of exploiting citizens through religion, as well as failing to meet safety, health, and legal requirements.

Authorities argue the moves aimed at stopping the exploitation of citizens through religion and ensuring accountability in places of worship.

The move has reignited debate across Africa about the balance between religious freedom and state oversight.
