SAM GEORGE DEMANDS RETRACTION AND APOLOGY FROM NPP ACTIVIST OVER LEXUS GIFT ALLEGATIONS
Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, is requesting a retraction and an apology from NPP activist P.K. Sarpong regarding claims that he acquired a Lexus vehicle.
An NPP activist on Facebook alleged that the minister was driving an unregistered vehicle characterised as a “top of the line Lexus,” asserting it was a present from an unspecified person, violating President Mahama’s Code of Conduct for government officials.
In response to the accusations, the legal representatives for Sam George, Korsah & Ackah @ Law, vigorously refuted the allegations, describing them as “defamatory and harmful.”
On May 20, Sam George’s legal team requested in a letter that Sarpong take down the Facebook post and provide a public retraction and apology within seven days, or risk facing a defamation lawsuit.
The letter stated, “You are fully aware that your publication is devoid of truth. Nonetheless, you have proceeded to make this misinformation public, with the apparent intention of tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of our client. Such conduct is defamatory and injurious.
“By this letter, you are hereby formally demanded to cease and desist from making or publishing any further false claims about our client.”
The minister stated that the 2024 Lexus LX600 was bought personally and funded via a loan arrangement from the National Investment Bank to the government and parliament.
Sam George posted on X that he is a current Member of Parliament in Ghana, eligible for a car loan, so how did the vehicle he bought become a gift from a businessman?
He wrote, “To Mr. P.K. Sarpong,
I have decided to let the world see how dishonest and untruthful you are. I am a serving Member of Parliament of Ghana who is entitled to a car loan.
How are vehicle I purchased under that scheme becomes a gift from a businessman can only be a vile, evil and dishonest claim.
As a public officer, I am committed to full disclosure and transparency. Apologise or prepare to face the consequences before the law. 🦁🇬🇭”
