SAMMY, I THANK YOU VERY MUCH – Otumfuo Praises GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi For Improving Gold Sector
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lauded Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), for his effective leadership in obtaining enhanced value from Ghana’s gold and mineral resources.
During the official inauguration of the Mining in Motion Summit in Accra on Monday, June 2, Otumfuo praised Gyamfi for advocating policies that enhance value addition, institutional development, and equitable returns in the gold sector.
“Sammy, I thank you very much for this one,” Otumfuo said, highlighting Gyamfi’s contribution to improving the gold sector.
The Asantehene, however, emphasised that the true problem extends beyond unlawful mining.
He stated that Ghana’s main hindrance is its inability to effectively manage and gain from its natural resources internationally.
“Probably the costliest effect of illicit mining, to me, is the distraction from the real challenge we face—which is how we maximize the benefits of our noble heritage. We have to be true to ourselves and admit that we have not done a good job of representing and protecting ourselves in the global marketplace,” he stated.
Otumfuo stated that the mining industry, especially gold, offers a distinctive chance for Ghana to redefine its economic prospects.
“Through the mining industry—and gold in particular—we have the opportunity to rewrite our story, but only if we take ourselves seriously,” he concluded.
The summit convened industry stakeholders, policymakers, and traditional leaders to address sustainable reforms in Ghana’s mining sector.
