The people of Ghana are upset with rapper Sarkodie for not speaking out during the recent #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest and other demonstrations.
The rapper, who is famous for his constant disapproval of the John Mahama-led administration through his hit track ‘Inflation’ and his endorsement of the NPP government for implementing free education in the campaign song ‘Happy Day’, has been noticeably silent on social media regarding what many view as the current government’s poor governance.
Even with the protests continuing and economic difficulties increasing in the country, Sarkodie has remained silent.
Many netizens are reacting to his silence, urging the ‘Non-Living Thing’ singer to join the #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #FreetheCitizens movements, as he did for Nigerians in the EndSars protests in Lagos.
One X user, Tech In Twi, tweeted, “He influenced millions of Ghanaians to vote for criminals who arrested pregnant women, asthmatic patients, and children under 13 years old, and they still prevented them from accessing food. In 2020, even Nigerians were protesting, and he supported them. But today, he can’t say a single word. Have you retired from music? Did you sign a contract to endorse criminal acts in the country to get paid?”
In response to the criticisms, the rapper took to social media to share a different sentiment, ”We pray for wisdom and good health.”
