SARKODIE NOT IN MY TOP THREE GHANAIAN RAPPERS, SAYS NASTY C

The South African hip-hop star opens up on their unresolved 2022 rift, expressing willingness to "smoke the peace pipe" while leaving the door open for a future collaboration.

Hip-hop fans, South African rapper Nasty C has stated that Ghana’s most decorated rapper, Sarkodie, does not currently rank in his top three Ghanaian rappers, though he acknowledged the artist’s place in the top five.

The revelation came during an appearance on Joy Prime on Monday, November 24, where Nasty C was asked to list his favorite Ghanaian rap artists. While he did not name his top three, he confirmed Sarkodie was not among them at the moment.

“He’s not in my top three at the moment. He is definitely in the top five,” Nasty C stated.

The discussion then turned to the long-simmering tension between the two artists, which became public in late 2022 through diss tracks. When asked about the possibility of a collaboration, Nasty C replied, “I don’t know, we would have to have a conversation.”

He suggested that miscommunication and busy schedules had prevented a resolution. “I think a lot of things got lost in translation… It’s no one’s organised that sit-down just yet, and we are both just busy with our lives,” he explained.

Nasty C expressed openness to reconciliation, noting that his 2022 track, “No Big Deal,” was intended as a respectful gesture. He speculated that Sarkodie may have misinterpreted the song’s tone.

“I said that in the song that I put out, but I guess I don’t know if he misunderstood it… his response to the song that I put out was a little spicy,” he said, referring to Sarkodie’s retaliatory track, “Landlord.”

Despite the unresolved issues, Nasty C confirmed he would be willing to sit down for a conversation if Sarkodie were open to it, leaving the future of their artistic relationship a topic of keen anticipation within the African hip-hop community.
